The Research Informatics Core (RIC) provides sponsored data services to support eligible UMass Chan Medical School students and UMass Memorial Health residents with approved research data projects.

Students and residents may serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) or participate as members of a study team. When a trainee serves as the PI, a Faculty Advisor must be designated to provide research oversight and guidance throughout the project.

How to Request Sponsored Data Services

To request sponsored RIC data services, the trainee must submit a project request through the RIC request system and provide the required study information, including the research plan or ISP, IRB submission information, confirmation of required training, requested data elements, and the name of the Faculty Advisor.

RIC reviews each request based on research value, technical feasibility, data requirements, available resources, and eligibility for the sponsored program.Following review, RIC provides a project scope and cost estimate for approval by the PI and Faculty Advisor. The RIC team then works with the study team to develop and validate the requested dataset.
