“Opportunities to Advance Health Equity through Implementation Science”
Friday, March 19, 2027
Event Description
Abstract: Realist evaluation focuses on answering the question: “What works, for whom, in what respects, to what extent, in what circumstances, and how?” It aims to identify the underlying causal mechanisms and contextual factors that explain resulting outcomes. This approach acknowledges that people are different and their circumstances are different as it examines the various factors at play in determining the success of an intervention or policy. Dr. Morrissey and Ms. Bunce will discuss the purpose and structure of Realist Evaluation methods providing insight into underlying philosophical foundations and practical applications.
Bios: Dr. Morrissey is an accomplished health systems researcher and applied medical anthropologist with nearly two decades of experience across academic, federal and clinical environments. She applies frameworks and methods in UX, human-centered design and implementation science to improve clinical workflows, advance clinician well-being and patient-centered care, and leads multi-stakeholder initiatives across health systems.
Arwen Bunce has deep expertise in the intersection of contextualized care and health information technology and in qualitative research methods used to study practice change. She is interested in adapting qualitative methods to meet the needs of evolving health care systems and has used realist evaluation in multiple studies exploring sociomedical integration.
