The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program offers learners the most up-to-date knowledge, treatment and cutting-edge research available for mental health concerns across the lifespan. The curriculum is robust and unique with a strong emphasis on neuropathology, psychopharmacology alongside an exposure to various psychotherapeutic approaches typical for the PMHNP practice settings. For those interested students there are opportunities for additional supervised clinical learning to further psychotherapy-based skills.
As a program we are committed to raising the visibility of social justice and equality issues in healthcare through educational strategies designed to develop critically aware and socially reflexive thinkers. Our learners will be prepared to assess, diagnose and treat acute and chronic mental health and substance use disorders. Graduates will be able to competently provide psychotherapeutic interventions common to most PMHNP practice settings and address the psychopharmacologic needs for patients of all age groups.
Upon graduation learners are eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner board certification examination. Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing Psychiatric Mental Health NP graduates will find themselves in high demand with their new expertise. Psychiatric Mental Health NPs, certified across the lifespan, will provide services in a variety of settings including outpatient and inpatient settings, step-down or residential programs as well as community-based and private outpatient practices.
