MD/PhD Research Retreat 2020 Travel Page

Travel & Accommodations

Travel costs will be paid by the Graduate School up to $400.00 without additional approval.  If your cost is over that amount, it will need to be approved in advance (the travel agent will contact the MD/PhD Program directly).  However, you will not be reimbursed for food while enroute, travel between your home and your local airport or bus/train station, nor for checked bags.  

Please use our travel agent Mary Ella Blundo (see below) to make your airline or Amtrak reservations.  She can be reached at Maryella Blundo, an independent contractor at the Travel Collaborative, regarding travel arrangements; your travel will be billed to us directly.  She can be reached at either 617-497-8132 or maryellaB@travelcoll.com.  Make sure you mention that you are coming to the UMass Chan MD/PhD Research Retreat.   She will need the following information from you:  Name on travel ID, DOB (with year), cell phone number, best travel airport for you.  For all travel information, please link to 

If you use local transportation including the Commuter Rail, bus, taxi or Uber, you can file for reimbursement of costs totaling more than $25 dollars.  We do not reimburse for mileage.

W-9 needs to be completed for to process a reimbursement.

Airport Shuttles

If you are arriving by air, we will arrange for a Knight’s Airport Shuttle to transport you to and from the airport.  Once we receive your flight information, we will contact the shuttle service and make transport arrangements.  Your shuttle confirmation number and date/time will be sent to you directly by the MD/PhD Program Coordinator, Alicia Birtz.

Arrival Dates

Wednesday, March 4th, 2020
Thursday, March 5th, 2020

Please plan to arrive at the Residence Inn in time to settle in before our shuttle takes you to UMass Chan for lunch at noon on Thursday with the students and faculty leadership. The ride from Logan Airport or the Amtrak station in Boston (South Station) to the hotel is approximately one hour without traffic.  If you are unable to arrive prior to the noon shuttle, please contact:
