Thank you for your interest in our program! UMass is a terrific place to learn, practice and teach Pediatrics. I have had experience learning and teaching at a number of medical centers large and small.  UMass offers the best of both worlds. We have the volume and diversity of a larger urban medical center, but the personal feel and close collaboration typical of a smaller program. Pediatric residents at UMass get an outstanding education from our dedicated primary care and subspecialty faculty. We strive to create a supportive learning environment with a focus on resident autonomy and quality improvement. We care about what our residents think and are continually making improvements to the program based on our residents’ feedback. The cooperative nature of our environment is easily palpable when you come to UMass. We help our residents find their path and support them as they thrive, which they do! We consistently graduate a healthy mix of primary care and subspecialty pediatricians who land top jobs and fellowships at the most competitive programs in the country. Come visit and take a closer look at what we have to offer!

I have been APD for several years now and feel so honored and lucky to have this role. After training in large programs (UCSF thenTinaCloseup.jpg Boston Children’s), then beginning my ID career at UMass in 2011,  I have come to recognize the beauty of a smaller residency program. The UMass Pediatric division and residency are a second family to me, and I know my colleagues and our residents share this feeling. Faculty at UMass get to watch our residents blossom as clinicians first hand. There is rarely a month that passes that I don’t interact with each and every resident, clinically, at conference or socially. Our residents have diverse interests for their futures, but they share a passion for practicing excellent evidence-based care in all settings and serving as compassionate providers. Our residents have the ability to work one-on-one with world class faculty, but also feel “ownership” for their patients. They are looked to as the first-line provider by their patients in continuity clinic, on the wards and in the ICUs. The UMass residents impress me and make me proud every day. Thank you for looking at our program!

KateCloseup.jpgGreetings from Worcester! I am a pediatric hospitalist and undoubtedly the best part of my job is getting to know, teach, and learn from our superb residents. Each year, it is a joy to watch our intern class arrive, steady their clinical feet, build friendships as well as their professional styles, and become a part of the UMass team. At our Children’s Medical Center, we see a full range of pediatric conditions and serve a wonderfully diverse community. Given the close-knit nature of our pediatric department, we excel at monitoring individual resident’s needs and interests, helping to craft a tailored pediatric training. Our rotations and teams are structured to help foster independent thinking and promote resident autonomy. Our faculty work hard to teach medicine that is evidence-based, patient-centered, and delivered with care and safety in mind. Our curriculum is thoughtful and of varying modalities for all learners: case conferences, high-fidelity simulation, online/virtual topics, group projects, community-based learning, and resident-as-teacher role, to name a few. I feel confident and proud that our residents graduate with the knowledge and skills they need to hit the ground running as the new fellowship or attending phases of their careers begin. Thank you for checking out our program, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Welcome! As someone who joined UMass Pediatrics as a resident and then stayed on as a fellow and now faculty member, I must say that it is a truly special place with incredible people. I feel so fortunate for the way that our residency program and department have supported me to pursue my passions in research and global health throughout my training and beyond. I now have the great joy of being a part of the residency leadership team - focusing on health equity, advocacy, and global health training for our residents. Our department and program are committed to training pediatricians who apply a health equity lens to the care they provide and advocate on behalf of patients and families. Among the many things we have to offer, residents have opportunities to engage in health equity research and community initiatives that align with their clinical interests. We also have a health equity and advocacy elective where residents can take a deep dive into a topic that they are passionate about. We believe that health equity and advocacy are important aspects of pediatric training that extend across pediatric primary care and subspecialties alike. Please reach out if you would like to learn more!

¡Bienvenidos! I am the Pediatric Training Programs Administrator. I am committed to providing the next generation of pediatricians with the resources and support they need to succeed. I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York. I have worked at UMass since 2004 in various positions in Pediatrics. I am proud to work at UMass, where faculty and staff strive to develop strong relationships, both professionally and personally. This is one of the main I reasons why I have remained at UMass so long. I’ve always heard that it takes a village to raise a family, I consider the UMass faculty/staff as a part of my village. They have supported me not only in my career but as a mother. As a strong believer of the power of positive thinking in the workplace, I established and lead the institutional Training Programs Coordinator Advisory Committee and am a member of the Pediatric Resident Wellness Committee. Being certain that our residents will go above and beyond to provide excellent and inclusive care to children and will continue to do so throughout their careers brings me the most joy. We are glad you took the time to learn more about us. We would be happy to answer any question you may have, please do not hesitate to reach out.
