Payout of Vacation & Sick Time

Upon the death of an employee, any accrued vacation time will be paid out in a lump sum to the beneficiary of record according to the State Retirement Board. If there is no designated beneficiary, the vacation will be paid out to the estate of the deceased.

If an employee dies, and he/she was vested in either the MSERS or ORP, the surviving beneficiary(ies) will be paid twenty percent (20%) of the employee’s accrued sick time or Sick Retirement Bank hours.
