Program Director and Assistant Program Directors
Karen Wiss, MD, FAAD, Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics, has served as Residency Program Director since January 2008. She has been an integral part of the residency program since 1992. She received her B.A. (1980) at The University of Texas in Austin and MD (1985) at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, followed by a pediatric internship and dermatology residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch (1989). Karen spent three years on the Harvard Medical School faculty at Boston Children’s Hospital and then joined the UMass Chan Medical School faculty in 1992 as the Director of Pediatric Dermatology. Her clinical and teaching practice is based at the Hahnemann Campus of UMass Memorial Health Care. Dr. Wiss’s professional interests include pediatric dermatology, epidermolysis bullosa, genodermatoses, childhood exanthems, midline developmental defects, pediatric lasers, and undergraduate/graduate medical education. Outside of work, you can find her baking, in her barre class, or spinning on her Peloton. She has a husband who is a dermatologist and 2 adult children who were forced to learn the names of many obscure dermatologic diseases growing up as a result!
Leah Belazarian, MD, FAAD, Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics, has served as Assistant Residency Program Director since 2010. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and MD from UMass Chan Medical School, followed by a medicine internship at UMass Memorial Health Care. She completed a dermatology residency at UMass in 2007 and pediatric dermatology fellowship at UMass in 2008. Dr. Belazarian is responsible for the dermatologic education of medical students and rotators at UMass. Her professional interests include pediatric dermatology, psoriasis, genodermatoses, medical dermatology, inpatient dermatology.
Dori Goldberg, MD, FAAD, Assistant Professor of Dermatology, has served Assistant Residency Program Director. She received her undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and MD from UMass Chan Medical School, followed by a medicine internship at UMass Memorial Health Care. She also completed a dermatology residency at UMass in 2007 and then a Mohs fellowship at UMass in 2008. Dr. Goldberg is now the Program Director for the Mohs fellowship. Her professional interests include cutaneous malignancy, general dermatologic surgery, pediatric dermatologic surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery.
