Seasonal Flu Vaccine 2025-2026
To: All UMass Chan Students
This year’s 2025-2026 flu season is fast approaching. The seasonal flu vaccine is required for all UMass Chan Medical Students.
The deadline to complete is by December 1st 2025.
There are several options to receive a flu vaccine which are different than years past.
UMass Chan students have several options to receive the seasonal flu vaccine:
- Contact your primary care provider’s office / ask to receive at your next visit.
- Visit a Pharmacy in the area- There are multiple pharmacies within a few miles from campus that administer flu vaccine.
- Visit any grocery store that has a pharmacy that offers flu vaccine.
- If you are at an off-site rotation, ask if that site can provide the vaccine to you.
Remember to bring your insurance card. Flu vaccine is free through most insurances.
Students who receive the flu vaccine in Massachusetts no longer need to provide a copy of their flu vaccine to Student Health. Student Health can obtain documentation through the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS).
If you receive a flu vaccine outside of Massachusetts or have opted out of MIIS, please provide a copy of the documentation to Student Health by scanning a copy to the Student Health e-mail studenthealth@umassmemorial.org. This documentation must include your name, date of birth, name of vaccine and the date administered, or it will not be accepted.
Those requesting a religious or medical exemption must update their request each year by the deadline. A provider letter must indicate the specific medical contraindication. If you request a religious exemption please send a detailed letter to Matthew Lyford Lyford@umassmemorial.org for review with a cc to Studenthealth@umassmemorial.org by the deadline.
Students must understand and abide by rotation site flu season policies.
Student Health will also update Peoplesoft with flu vaccine dates for Medical Students to communicate with the school to assure compliance. If you do not receive the vaccine by the deadline, you will need to communicate directly with your school coordinator.
