The UMass Musculoskeletal Research Program advances discovery to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoarthritis and related musculoskeletal conditions. Through integrated expertise in epidemiology, clinical trials, and biomarker development, we aim to transform how musculoskeletal diseases are understood and managed – by bridging research and clinical care to enhance patients' lives.

Our mission is to accelerate translational science by identifying biological, imaging, and clinical markers of disease progression and treatment response; conducting rigorous studies that inform precision care; and fostering multidisciplinary collaborations across academia, healthcare, and industry. While our primary focus is osteoarthritis, our vision extends to the full spectrum of musculoskeletal disorders, uniting discovery and compassionate care to promote lifelong mobility and health.
