Jeffrey Bergelson, M.D.

Talk Title: Coxsackievirus Receptors: a walk down memory lane

Jeff Bergelson, M.D., grew up in Philadelphia. He graduated from Harvard College in 1972, studied molecular biology at Rockefeller, and graduated from Penn medical school in 1981.  He completed a pediatric residency at UCSF, followed by an infectious diseases fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital and a postdoctoral fellowship in Dr. Finberg's laboratory at Dana-Farber.

In 1997 he moved back to Penn and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he ultimately became Professor of Pediatrics and held the Stanley Plotkin chair in infectious diseases.  Until his retirement at the end of 2019, Dr. Bergelson studied how viruses interact with receptors to enter cells.

He visits Boston frequently to see his children, grandchildren, and grand dogs and cats.
