A model curriculum across the medical education continuum

Massachusetts Medical Schools Consortium

The Learning Environment Study – AMA iSTEP

The Massachusetts Consortium is participating in the Learning Environment Study, being launched by the American Medical Association’s ISTEP initiative (Innovative Strategies for Transforming the Education of Physicians) in the 2010-2011 Academic Year.

In 2006 the AMA launched ISTEP, a unique medical education research collaborative that brings together individuals and institutions from across the continuum of physician learning. This research will help lead to needed reforms in physician education—and better care for patients. The agreed-upon goal of ISTEP is to be the premier transformational medical education research collaborative focused on identifying the connections between educational efforts across all learner levels (students, residents/fellows and practicing physicians) and improved patient care outcomes. The Massachusetts Medical Schools Consortium was selected to be one of 16 sites (comprising a total of 27 medical schools) across the country to participate in iSTEP.
