Where to Start
No matter where you are in the promotions process, it is important for you to have a CV in the UMass-Chan format and to know what your area of distinction is.
i. Transitioning your CV to the UMass Chan format is time consuming. Start early and update annually.
1. Profiles:
The medical school utilizes a uniform approach for presenting faculty information using the Profiles system. Faculty can
update their individual profiles as needed. Please refer to this website for guidance.
ii. At UMass-Chan, the criteria for academic promotion are determined by areas of distinction. Here is a guide on
Selecting Areas of Distinction. Links to tables that provide the criteria for each AOD are here (described as “examples that provide evidence of achievement at each level). All faculty members who are applying for promotion MUST comment on their contribution to Education and Academic Service – even if these are not chosen Areas of Distinction.
