DFMCH Promotions Process

Our current process puts your materials in front of the DPAC twice. First, a preliminary internal DPAC review of your basic file, which will confirm your eligibility for promotion and offer feedback on your materials. Once your materials are ready for distribution, letters are solicited from internal and external reviewers. Once we receive all letters, the DPAC will review the whole packet and vote. The entire process generally takes 6-9 months AFTER we have received your materials.
i. When you are ready to start the promotions process, please submit the following to FMCH DPAC.
1. Your narrative statement. The narrative statement is a 2-3 page document that describes how you have achieved the criteria for promotion in your chosen Area(s) of Distinction.
2. CV in UMass Chan format
3. A list of potential letter writers broken down by category. Please provide 3-5 potential letter writers for each category, including name, title and rank, and email address.
ii. DPAC will conduct a thorough review your materials, provide feedback, and request edits to help you build a promotion portfolio that is as strong as possible. One DPAC member will be identified as your point person during this step in the process.
iii. Upon receiving your edits, the department will formally solicit letters from your letter writers and your promotion portfolio will be distributed to them.
iv. During this time, you should also gather your educational evaluations and other documentation of educational effectiveness.
v. Once all letters and documentation of educational effectiveness have been received, DPAC will do a second review of your material and vote to advance your promotion.
vi. Following the DPAC vote, your materials and a DPAC letter go to the chair, who also will write a letter. All materials will then be sent to the institutional UMass-Chan PAC.
