Research Faculty Position UMass Chan Medical School Department of Emergency Medicine

The UMass Chan Medical School and the UMass Memorial Medical Center Department of Emergency Medicine is actively seeking a mid-career or senior scientist for a clinical or translational research faculty position. The department is home to numerous basic and clinical scientists, has dedicated lab space, and research support staff.

The potential for intra- and inter-departmental collaboration is considerable. The department has consistently attracted NIH funding by multiple investigators since 2001. A successful candidate must qualify for a full–time faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or higher in the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Academic or Research track. Tenure track is an option. Minimum requirements include: PhD or MD/PhD degree, previous academic work, publication, and a track record of extramural funding in an area relevant to emergency medicine. Experience related to the areas of cardiovascular emergencies, toxicology, public health, preventive and behavioral medicine, infectious disease, health informatics, e-health, or critical care is preferred. This position is supported by a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and a negotiable start-up package. Likely start date is the Summer of 2010.

The Department has a staff of 60 physicians. UMMMC is a Level I Trauma center in a new, state of the art 70,000 square foot facility covering a service area of over one million people. 167,000 visits occur annually at four practice sites. There is a separate Pediatric ED, an air ambulance program and we are a hospital-based EMS provider. Fellowships include EMS, Toxicology, Research, Ultrasound, Disaster Medicine and Emergency Management, and International Emergency Medicine and Global Health. Our Emergency Medicine Residency with 36 residents is the oldest in New England.
