All first-year students are required to complete the two semester Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Biomedical Sciences Core course that covers the basics of biochemistry, genetics and cell biology.  The Chemical Biology course (BP715) is taught every Spring semester.  Topics include:  chemical synthesis of biopolymers, combinatorial chemistry, amplification screening, chemical genetics, native chemical ligation, incorporation of unnatural amino acids and carbohydrates, chemoselective reactions, enzyme inhibitors and rational drug design.
Course Director: Stephen Miller

In the Fall semester, the Molecular Biophysics course (BP716) covers the physical principles that underlie the thermodynamic and mechanistic properties of biological macromolecules and macromolecular complexes.  To complete the required coursework for the Ph.D. program, students are encouraged to take one of the many advanced topics courses offered that directly relates to their graduate research.
Course Director: Jill Zitzewitz
