Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employees Charitable Campaign launches

Historically among the most generous donors, UMass Medical School employees will help to kick off the 2016 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employees Charitable Campaign (COMECC) on Monday, Nov. 7.

“COMECC provides the opportunity to give to close to 1,000 prescreened organizations, including some working on a cause about which you are passionate,” said Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Dean Anthony Carruthers, PhD, professor of biochemistry & molecular pharmacology and microbiology & physiological systems, and co-chair of this year’s drive at UMMS.

The statewide campaign, which runs through Wednesday, Nov. 23, allows UMMS employees to direct their contributions to hundreds of local, regional, national and international nonprofits dedicated to supporting a wide range of needs.

As an institution, UMMS has been among the leading donors to COMECC. Last year, contributions from UMMS employees comprised nearly 40 percent of contributions statewide.

Karen Welch and Denise Silva coordinate BMP’s 158 faculty and staff who participate in the annual COMECC campaign.
