Adam Hedger
Adam was born in the United Kingdom and grew up near Bournemouth, on the south coast of England. He completed an integrated BS/MS in chemistry (MChem) at the University of Southampton, UK, and carried out his Masters project abroad in the Watts Lab at UMass Chan Medical School, synthesizing prodrug analogues of non-natural nucleosides for DNA labeling. Fired up by this experience, he came back to UMass to pursue his PhD joint between the labs of Jonathan Watts and Celia Schiffer. His PhD focus was at the interface of structural biology and nucleic acid chemistry, developing new oligonucleotide-based inhibitors for APOBEC3 deaminases. After finishing his PhD and a short postdoc in the Watts lab, he joined Korro Bio in Boston as part of the Medicinal Chemistry team improving the properties of ADAR-recruiting oligonucleotide guides. Outside the lab, Adam is never far from a cold beer (although will argue with Jon over what is a good one!) and is a huge football (soccer) fan. He misses English pubs and baked beans but enjoys taking advantage of the New England climate to both hike and learn to ski.
