Urology Residency Program

The University of Massachusetts is the only state medical school in Massachusetts and we are dedicated to training the commonwealth’s next generation of urologists.   The Urology training program has been educating medical students and residents for over thirty years, starting when Dr. Mani Menon joined the UMass faculty in 1982, with a ten-year hiatus from 2005-2015.  The Department of Urology continues a commitment to exceptional resident education. The objectives of our residency program are to provide excellent comprehensive clinical training in all aspects of urology and to create an atmosphere and enthusiasm for discovery and service.

Each of our academic faculty has expertise in the diagnosis and management of common and complex urologic disease. We offer comprehensive care for urologic disorders, including: urologic cancers (oncology), stone disease, incontinence, reconstruction of the urinary tract, impotence, prostate diseases, abnormal bladder function, infections of the urinary system, pediatric urology, and complicated deformities of the urinary system. Our faculty has advanced training and proficiency in modern surgical technologies including robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic procedures.  The involvement of our faculty in laboratory, translational, and clinical investigation means that we can offer our residents broad exposure to basic and clinical research.  To broaden the educational experience, in addition to the full-time academic faculty, there are community-based urologists who provide additional training.

We currently offer a five-year training program (1 year of general surgery internship followed by 4 years of urology residency) in which we provide our residents with a superlative training opportunity. One position is available for each year.  We have no fellowships.  Interested applicants must apply through the annual AUA match.
