Welcome to the UMass Chan Psychiatry Residency Program website! I hope to provide a glimpse into what makes our program unique, from our location in Central Massachusetts, to our diverse training opportunities.

Our training program is in Worcester, MA, the second most populous city in New England with a culturally diverse population and rich history. A few of my favorite fun facts about Worcester include its claim to fame as the birthplace of the smiley face and the Valentine card, although I invite you to discover some more interesting trivia! Our location in central Massachusetts offers easy access to a multitude of activities to suit your interests; whether you consider yourself more of an outdoorsperson, a foodie, or a history buff, I’m certain you’ll find plenty of fun opportunities to spend your time outside of the hospital.

From our emphasis on psychotherapy training starting in PGY-2 year, to clinical rotations in multiple settings including inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, neuromodulation, and consultation-liaison services, our psychiatry training program emphasizes diverse training opportunities to foster your specific career goals. In addition, our commitment to education is evident in our curriculum, with a full day of didactic lectures every Thursday designed to nurture learning and connection with our peers, as well as opportunities to work with faculty on research projects and other scholarly activities.
