UMMS-Baystate Regional Campus
UMMS partnered with Baystate Health in 2015 to create the UMMS-Baystate regional campus in Springfield, MA, which offers the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health (PURCH) Track.
The PURCH Track is an innovative, immersive education experience that prepares medical students to practice successfully in the post-healthcare reform world by training them to manage the health of both individuals and populations.
The 6,000 sq. ft. newly renovated UMMS-Baystate campus includes classrooms with teleconferencing connections to the main campus in Worcester, quiet study areas, lockers, interview rooms, a kitchen, learning community space, medical research offices, and administrative offices.
Baystate Health, an integrated academic health system, is one of the largest health systems in New England. It serves more than 800,000 largely under-served people from inner city neighborhoods to rural hilltown farms. It has the busiest emergency department in Massachusetts and the only Level 1 trauma center in the region.
You will have opportunities to train in a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical settings within Baystate’s integrated academic health system:
- Baystate Medical Center, a large full-service teaching hospital that includes a children’s hospital
- 3 community hospitals
- 3 neighborhood health centers
- 10 ACGME-accredited residencies and 20 sponsored fellowships
- more than 1,000 medical staff
- wholly owned health insurance plan
- network of over 80 medical practices.
