1999 Highlights

National/International Conference Participation

UMass hosted the American Academy on Physician and Patient Annual Faculty Development Course, with David Hatem, MD, serving as Course Director. Six faculty from UMass attended the conference, and Ms.Ferrara participated as a presenter for a Macy Project workshop, along with representatives from the other two Macy partner schools.

Also, during July, Dr. Pugnaire, Dr. Hatem and Ms. Ferrara attended the "Communication in Medicine Conference." Ms. Ferrara participated in a Macy Project workshop presentation, along with representatives from the other two Macy partner schools. Another conference highlight was the initiation of the development of "The Model for Effective Doctor-Patient Communication." This project was undertaken in meetings at the conference by a 3-school committee, including Adina Kalet, Kathy Cole-Kelly and Michele Pugnaire.
