The status quo:
Yellow Line

Changing even seemingly insignificant habits is easier said than done. Many at-home health monitoring devices exist, but their use generally depends on altering our behavior in some way. Remembering to take a blood pressure measurement, wear and charge a watch, or keep a log of blood sugars can get lost amidst life’s many demands. Devices that integrate more seamlessly into our daily lives could improve the uptake and quality of home-based health monitoring.

What we study:
Yellow Line

The Heart Seat is a toilet seat that monitors multiple vital signs via embedded cardiac sensors and automatically transmits this clinical data over wi-fi. The Heart Seat is an investigational device developed by Casana, a software and technology company that is dedicated to helping people with chronic conditions better manage their health from home. In the COMMODE-seat (Correlating Outcomes with Mobile Monitoring using Digital sEnsors in a seat) study, participants with multiple chronic conditions will receive a Heart Seat; the passively collected data will help us identify patterns associated with changes in their health.

How we innovate:
Yellow Line

Participants will be enrolled in the COMMODE-seat study for up to one year. The key features of the study include:

Home installation of The Heart Seat.

Our team will replace the participant’s toilet seat with The Heart Seat. There is no device maintenance or charging required by the user

More devices are welcome.

Participants can also choose to sync their own smart devices with MyDataHelps, a mobile application platform developed by CareEvolution, LLC.

Symptom tracking.

Participants can log symptoms in the MyDataHelps app and access statistics and trends regarding their symptoms and treatments.
