Research in the Guertin Lab

We are exploring the biochemical mechanisms controlling cell growth and metabolism and their significance to the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases including Type 2 Diabetes and Cancer.  We are specifically researching how signal transduction pathways and the metabolic machinery intersect with a particular focus on the Insulin and mTOR pathways.  Another current interest is to better understand the development and function of brown and white adipose tissue and how unhealthy adipose tissue alters energy balance and promotes disease.  Our long-term goal is to identify key nodes of metabolic control that can be targeted therapeutically to improve human health.
