Principal Investigator: Lauren Feld, MD
Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology &
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Executive for the Department of Medicine

Lauren FeldDr. Feld graduated from Wesleyan University with high honors and Phi Beta Kappa, with a focus on quantitative assessment. She received her MD from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and completed internal medicine residency at the University of Chicago, where she also served as a Chief Resident. She completed a fellowship in Clinical Medical Ethics at the MacLean Center for Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago. She completed Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology fellowships at the University of Washington. Dr. Feld joined the UMass Chan Medical School in 2022, where she serves as the Physician Executive of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging for the Department of Medicine, and an assistant professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is passionate about improving work environments through structural solutions to allow faculty to achieve personal and professional well-being and provide higher-quality patient care. Her research is focused on the intersection of gender equity and medical ethics.


Zakiya CarterZakiya Carter, MD Candidate, Class of 2026

Zakiya is interested in investigating health disparities in underrepresented populations. She is also interested in transplant research and the intersection of race and maternal medicine. 

Katie CooperKatherine (Katie) Cooper, MD, PGY2

Katie is interested in the intersection between women’s health and liver disease. She is working on clinical research projects on reproductive health in patients with cirrhosis.

Daniella GonzalezDaniella Gonzalez, DO, PGY3

Daniella has an interest in the impact of gender, ethnicity and socioeconomic status in health equity. Her research explores gaps in access to care in gastroenterology. 

Darya HerscoviciDarya Herscovici, MD Candidate, Class of 2024

Darya's research interests lie within health services, specifically exploring how socioeconomic factors and organizational structures impact the access and quality of healthcare.

Kathy NguyenKathy Nguyen, MD Candidate, Class of 2027

Kathy is interested in gender equity and aging-related research. She is also dedicated to improving access for underrepresented students in pursuing a career in medicine.

Tinyan OmereTinyan Omere, MD Candidate, Class of 2026

Tinyan is interested in health systems science and disparities research. She is also interested in the intersection of health policy and law.

Brittany TranBrittany Tran, MD, PGY2

Brittany is investigating health disparities in immigrant health. She is also working to promote equity during medical training through creating a mentorship program for trainees.

Lindon TranLindon Tran, MD Candidate, Class of 2026

Lindon is a current medical student at UMass Chan Medical School. He is interested in health equity, public health, queer health, and health systems.
