Requirements for Appointment

Graduates of medical schools approved by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education are eligible for appointment to the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Foreign medical graduates must be certified by the ECFMG, have the appropriate visa, and be eligible for Massachusetts licensure.  All students must have passed their step 2 CK exams by February 1st to be eligible for residency. 
 

UMass Chan is a member of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). First-year positions are not offered to medical students outside the program prior to the announcement of NRMP results. Appointments to all other positions are filled by direct negotiation between the program director and eligible candidates. 

All application material is handled through theElectronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)of the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). 

In accordance with the CORD Application Process Improvement Committee Recommendations for 2021-2022 and the Unified Release Date, UMass will be releasing interview invitations beginning October 20th, 2021. 

An interview is required. All appointments are for one year and will be renewed by mutual agreement in accordance with the provisions of the UMass Chan residency programs personnel policies.
