Jan Nissly, MSW, PhD is a clinician-researcher and educator with an academic background in Psychology and Social Work. She serves as Co-Lead for the UMCCTS Workforce Development Program and is the founding director of EXCEL-UP, a clinical research internship program for undergraduates.

Dr. Nissly’s research interests focus broadly on the health and human services workforce, with previous studies having examined worker well-being, workforce turnover and retention, and the effectiveness of workforce development interventions. She has implemented, evaluated, and led several training initiatives for populations ranging from high school graduates (AmeriCorps members) to licensed behavioral healthcare providers.

During her tenure as a faculty member in the University of Southern California School of Social Work, Dr. Nissly provided scientific mentorship to dozens of graduate students at the master’s and predoctoral levels. She is a CIMER-trained facilitator and inaugural member of the UMass Chan Mentorship Steering Committee, facilitating workshops for faculty wishing to enhance their mentorship skills.
