Past Outreach Events

Looking for information about previous outreach events? Look no further!

BMB faculty have hosted many high school and college students in their laboratories, providing critical scientific training. Several BMB faculty, students and staff have participated in additional outreach experiences including judging local middle school and high school science fairs and participating in Science Nights at elementary schools. Team BMB walks in the UMass Cancer Walk and Run every September in memory of our dear friend and colleague Kai Lin as well as in memory and support of other friends and family members. BMB graduate students lend a helping hand in a variety of community outreach programs including Habitat for Humanity and Thanksgiving food drives.

The BMB department also has an Outreach Committee made up of staff, trainees, scientists and faculty who work to organize science outreach events in the community. The Outreach Committee works closely with the Outreach Office.

Art Relaxation Hour at ASCB CellBio 2023

The Biochemistry & Molecular Biotechnology (BMB) department organized an event at the American Society of Cell Biology Cell Bio 2023 Meeting called "Science Art Relaxation Hour." Conference attendees had a chance to decompress by creating scientific art. This outreach event within the scientific community created opportunities for scientists to network and benefit from the relaxing influence of art. This was co-organized by Dr. Haley Barlow and Dr. Leonora Martinez-Nunez.
