Black Belt Graduation Ceremony Features Eye Center’s Operational Excellence Project
Date Posted: Friday, October 05, 2018The Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt is a comprehensive principle based lean leadership program. The program focuses on the design and implementation of principle based systems, anchored in desired behaviors, and the use of Lean tools and methods to drive UMMHC True North goals surrounding patient-centered care, quality, safety, efficiencies, and satisfaction.
Leaders find this program to be a transformative experience on both a personal and professional level as they work on a project that is designed to elevate their leadership style and the current state of their organization. Program participants have previously completed a UMMHC Green Belt.
Dr. Shlomit Schaal, Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, presented her Black Belt Project entitled: “Operational Excellence at the Eye Center: Achieving Alignment and Enabling Innovation”. The Eye Center underwent considerable positive changes in efficiency and productivity over the past 2 years, doubling patient volumes, and increasing patients’ access to care.
As new services are continuously introduced at the Eye Center, the current challenge is to sustain previous achievements, to align new providers to the Eye Center’s mission and goals, and to enable innovation.
This project was one of 26 Black Belt project, presented by graduates representing all aspects of UMMHC, ForHealth Consulting and the SHARE union. For the first time, two tracks were included, the executive track and the traditional track in which there were mandatory and optional modules.
Since 2013, UMMHC under the leadership of Dr Eric Dickson and Dr. Lori Pelletier, has certified over 100 Black Belts!! Congratulations to all of the new Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt graduates and to the community of Black Belts as they accelerate the transformation of people and systems to become the best place to give care and the best place to get care at UMMHC and our community!
