The Eye Team Reaches Out to the Worcester Community
Date Posted: Sunday, June 17, 2018Members of the Eye Team actively participated in the annual Multicultural Women’s Health Summit, that took place at UMass Chan Medical School on Saturday, June 16th. This signature event, conceived by Dr. Deborah Plummer, and executed by her Diversity and Inclusion team, is aimed to provide health information and education to women of our community.
This unique community focused wellness event included free health screening and health assessments. The Eye Team, represented by Manisha Anand, Diamond Parilla, Krasimir Tolev, and clinic manager, Darlene Bocash-Winn presented eye health educational materials to the public.
Dr. Misha Faustina, Director of Oculoplastic Surgery, and the Director of GME education at the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences gave a talk about the aging eye, with special emphasis on cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, and eye lid and facial changes that occur with age.
Dr. Shlomit Schaal, Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences co-chaired the health summit with Dr. Julia Johnson, Chair of the Department of OBGYN at UMass Chan Medical School. Dr. Schaal said: “It is one of the rare and precious opportunities that we get to reach out to our community, and to communicate directly with people. It was truly a pleasure to see how diverse, interested, intelligent, and lovely our Worcester community is. I am grateful to the Eye Team members who did a fabulous job explaining eye disorders to the women of our community.”
