Eye Center Yellow Belt Celebration

Date Posted: Tuesday, May 09, 2017

The UMass Memorial Eye Center celebrated Yellow Belt graduation for all faculty and staff. Mr. Patrick Muldoon, president of UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, was the honorable guest speaker at the event. Mr. Muldoon congratulated the eye team for being the first to employ clinic-wide LEAN training for all faculty members and staff.

Mr. Muldoon said: "The goals of the ophthalmology department are well aligned with our True North values, focused on best delivery of patient care." During the event, all faculty members presented their areas of focus. Technician Mr. David Rivera summarized the yellow belt project completed by the eye team. "The yellow belt training allowed the eye team to implement numerous original ideas to increase the number of patients seen daily at the eye center, while decreasing the wait time to less than five minutes", said Mr. Rivera.

Yellow Belt training was coached by Marissa O'Connor, who guided the eye team through the process over the past few months. Dr. Lori Pelletier, Associate Vice President of Organizational Transformation at UMass Memorial Healthcare, said: "I am happy to see that the eye team has made such significant progress in such a short period of time. The Yellow Belt celebration is inspiring. I wish we could take the eye team's enthusiasm and motivation and sprinkle it around our entire organization".
