The crowd was diverse, and included academic clinical and research faculty from the UMass Chan Medical School, as well as medical students, bioengineering students, research scholars and community ophthalmologists.
Dr. Shlomit Schaal presented some of her innovative research work that is currently done at UMass in collaboration with the bioengineering department at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. The research uses state of the art OCT-angiography technology to detect early changes in the retina of patients with diabetes. The Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at UMass is the only center that currently provides this technology.
