Eleanor L. Hunter Tumor Registry for Serous Carcinoma of the Peritoneum
Patient Eligibility and Exclusions:
Patients with established extraovarian peritoneal serous papillary carcinoma. Criteria for diagnosis includes:

Both ovaries are either physiologically normal in size or enlarged by a benign process. In the judgment of the surgeon and the pathologist, the bulky tumor is in the peritoneum and the degree of tumor involvement at one or more extraovarian sites is greater than on the surface of either ovary.

Microscopically, the ovarian component is one of the following:

Nonexistent.

Confined to ovarian surface epithelium with no evidence of cortical invasion.

Involves ovarian surface and underlying cortical stroma but with any given tumor size less than 5x5 mm.

Tumor less then 5x5 mm within ovarian substance associated with or without surface disease.

The histological and cytological characteristics of the tumor are predominantly serous type that is similar or identical to ovarian serous papillary adenocarcinoma, any grade.

Patients who had an oophorectomy performed prior to the diagnosis of EPSPC must have one of the following:
-
The pathology report required to document benign ovaries, and all slides of normal ovaries submitted for review if the oophorectomy was performed within five years of the diagnosis of EPSPC.

If the oophorectomy occurred more than five years prior to the diagnosis of EPSPC, the pathology report of the benign ovaries is required, an an attempt to obtain the slides must be made.

All patients must have appropriate surgery at outlined in the GOG Surgical Manual (Section 4.2 and Appendix VI). The Pelvic and abdominal washings must NOT be pooled.

Patients at least 1 cm disease post surgery.

Cytological confirmation of a malalignment pleural effusion is required when an effusion is present.
