Well-known Central Massachusetts business and community leaders have been announced as co-chairs of the 11th annual Winter Ball, the fundraising gala benefiting UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Susan and Anthony Consigli and Susan and Clifford Rucker began their volunteer roles earlier this year in preparation for the Winter Ball, which will take place at Mechanics Hall on Friday, Dec. 6.

“We are most grateful to the Consiglis and the Ruckers for making the commitment to serve as the co-chairs of our 2019 Winter Ball Steering Committee,” said UMass Medical School Chancellor Michael F. Collins and UMass Memorial President and CEO Eric W. Dickson. “We are confident that their leadership, partnership and engagement will elevate this year’s 11th annual gala to new heights.”

“Our roots are here in Central Massachusetts and this community is important to us,” said the Consiglis. “It is why we have supported, and continue to support, these two vital organizations, which are making a difference here and across the globe.”

“The work that UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial do for Central Massachusetts and beyond is inspiring,” said the Ruckers. “We are proud to support them in their efforts to make people’s lives better.”

Anthony Consigli is chief executive officer of Consigli Construction Co., Inc., the largest commercial contractor in Central Massachusetts, according to the Worcester Business Journal, which named him to its 2018 list of “The Power 50.” Anthony Consigli, who earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University, and his brother Matthew Consigli, who is president of Consigli Construction, are the fourth generation to lead this family-owned firm. Founded in 1905, the company employs more than 1,000 people in seven regional offices along the East Coast from Maine to Washington, D.C. Consigli Construction has been a supporter of the Winter Ball since the first event was held in 2009. The Consiglis reside in Milford and have three children.

Clifford “Cliff” Rucker is perhaps best known in Central Massachusetts as the owner of the Worcester Railers, the hockey team founded in Worcester in 2016. Susan Rucker is co-owner, and a partner of Porzia Properties. A recipient of the 2018 Harvey Ball Smile Award, Clifford Rucker is also president of NFS Leasing, an independent equipment leasing company that specializes in technology, scientific, medical, robotic, agricultural and construction equipment. Previously, he was the founder and CEO of NEXL, a national provider of IT services and outsourcing, a company he sold in 2005. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and international relations from Tufts University.

Since 2009, members of the Central Massachusetts community—business and civic leaders, philanthropists and humanitarians—have gathered in early December at the Winter Ball to celebrate and support the lifesaving work of UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial. The 10th anniversary Winter Ball in 2018 successfully reached its fundraising goal of $2 million.

Event proceeds are generated from corporate sponsorships, auctions, a fund-a-need auction segment and individual ticket sales.
