Former FDA commissioner Robert Califf presents Melvin S. Cutler lecture

Robert M. Califf, MD, MACC, former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, presented the Melvin S. Cutler Lecture at UMass Medical School, entitled, “An American Approach to Medical Evidence Generation,” on Thursday, April 27. Dr. Califf is professor of medicine at Duke University and founding director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute. He served as commissioner of the FDA from January 2016, when he was appointed by President Obama, until Jan. 20. He previously served as deputy commissioner for medical products and tobacco at the FDA.
