The Eye Team Celebrates Sweet 16 Second Year in a Row

Date Posted: Thursday, June 13, 2019

The Eye Team celebrated being included in the Sweet 16 Finalists for the UMass Memorial Healthcare Innovators of the Year Award second year in a row.

Dr. Schaal, chair of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences said: “the Eye Team has made amazing strides in the past three years to turn the Eye Center to be the best place to get eye care in central Massachusetts. Patients now trust us with their care and therefore every month we see more patients in our clinics and do more eye surgeries”.

The Eye Center has seen tremendous growth in the past three years, and is now located in 3 different places: Hahnemann Campus at Lincoln street in Worcester, Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) at University of Massachusetts main campus, and at Northborough Crossing. The eye clinics are equipped with state of the art technology and are run according to LEAN principles, with elimination of waste time and added value time for patients. Eye Team members participate in weekly huddles and implement their original ideas to continuously improve clinic operations.

“Being included in the top performing 16 teams in UMass Memorial Healthcare is an honor”, said Darlene Bocash-Winn, Eye Center manager, “we are lucky to have talented and motivated people working together every day for the benefit of our patients.”
