Transformation of the Eye Center featured at UMass Memorial Alignment to True North Event

The transformation of the Eye Center was featured at the UMass Memorial Alignment to True North event. Managers of the health system convened together to learn about ways to better align health services to UMass Memorial True North values. The Eye Center was the first to introduce the concept of clinic-wide LEAN training for all faculty and staff.

The eye team completed white belt and yellow belt training under the diligent coaching of Marissa O'Connor. During the training multiple insufficiencies and opportunities for improvement were identified and were corrected by implementation of new ideas originating from eye team members. The UMass Memorial Eye Center was successful in increasing access to eye doctors 3 fold, increasing patient volume, and decreasing wait time for patients at the eye clinic to less than 5 minutes.
