Date Posted: Thursday, August 02, 2018

The UMass Memorial Eye Center continues to expand its clinical capabilities with the arrival of Pediatric Ophthalmologist Suzanne Johnston, MD, MPH, of Boston Children’s Hospital in July.

“Dr. Johnston will provide evaluation, diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment for a full range of eye conditions that affect children, and for eye misalignment problems in children,” said Dr. Shlomit Schaal, MD, PhD, chair of Ophthalmology, adding “Dr. Johnston brings more than twenty years of extensive experience in pediatric strabismus along with pediatric glaucoma, and child and adolescent development of the eye. Her expertise in pediatric strabismus will be especially valuable to our team in helping to detect and treat this common vision development condition early.”

Strabismus is eye misalignment, also referred to as crossed eyes or wandering eyes, a condition that can be corrected in most pediatric patients.

A graduate of Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Johnson completed her residency at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, in Norfolk, VA, followed by a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at Duke University, Durham, NC.  She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  She will see patients in the UMass Memorial Eye Center at Hahnemann Campus.

Dr. Johnston will be working on the Hahnemann Campus the first and third Thursday of every month. Physicians wishing to schedule patients with Dr. Johnston should call the Eye Center directly at 508-334-4637.
