Vision Seminar Hosts Michael E. Zegans, MD, Chair of Ophthalmology at Dartmouth

Date Posted: Monday, February 19, 2018

Dr. Zegans is a Professor of Surgery and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Dartmouth College. He currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Dartmouth College.

He specializes in cornea and in uveitis. Dr. Zegans shared his experience from the SCUT and MUTT trials – two NIH funded randomized collaborative international trials he led, exploring the possible best treatment for infectious keratitis, either bacterial or fungal.

Dr. Zegans demonstrated the ability to perform translational research (from bench to clinic) and reverse translational research (from clinic to bench), making the point that more clinician-scientists are needed in ophthalmology to allow to link basic research findings with important un-solved pathways that lead to clinical eye diseases. Dr. Zegan’s talk stimulated interest and discussions by Vision Scientists and Clinicians.
