Eye Team Participates in Multicultural Women’s Health Summit

The fourth annual Multicultural Women’s Health Summit took place on Saturday June 15th at the Albert Sherman Center. Members of the academic health science community who are dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women who live and work in Central Massachusetts presented talks focused on women’s health. Dr. Julia Johnson, Professor and Chair of OBGYN department, and Dr. Shlomit Schaal, Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology &Visual Sciences chaired this special event, which was supported and sponsored both by the UMass Memorial Healthcare System, and by UMass Chan Medical School.

Eye Team members Manisha Anand and Alena Allen provided eye care information to the community and answered eye care related questions. Dr. Misha Faustina, Director of Oculoplastics presented a talk entitled: “We All Turn Into Our Parents Eventually: Natural Changes to the Eyes”. Dr. Schaal said: “it was a beautiful day that allowed us to reach out the women in the Worcester community and to display the multiple services that we provide. It was truly a celebration of health, wellness, women, and diversity.”

The event was organized by the Diversity and Inclusion Office at UMass Chan Medical School, led by Dr. Deborah Plummer. Holly Brown put the program together, which focused on healthy living and healthy eating.
