Please meet a few members of our team

Katherine Ribeiro, MBA has a background in health care, financial analysis and academic administration.   She worked for almost ten years for a multi-site neuropsychology practice and previously worked for Fidelity Investments, Fleet Bank and Bain and Company. Her educational background includes an MBA from Boston College and a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. Most recently Katherine was an academic administrator at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She lives in Central Massachusetts where she enjoys the abundance of delightful hiking trails and nature walks.

Sharon Furbish is a graduate of Becker College and has worked for the UMass Memorial, Medical Center since 1991 in various positions. She has been in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences for two and a half years, where she provides administrative support to the Chair and Administrator. Her interests include spending time with family, baking, music, and watching sports.

Jackie Volke is a graduate of Salter Secretarial School and has been working in the field of Ophthalmology for over forty-five years. Jackie is a member of Corvettes United of Central Massachusetts and a patron of Boston Ballet for over twenty years. In her free time, Jackie enjoys reading.

"If you find something you love to do, you’ll never work a day in your life”. Helping patients is something that I enjoy. One of the ways I enjoy helping is with language, I am Bilingual and speak fluent Spanish as well as English. It was important for me to fully develop my career so I earned a certificate in Medical Office Administration. When I am not at work, I enjoy traveling, summer, and eating different types of food.

I have been working in the ophthalmology for over 5 years and I enjoy learning everything about the eyes. I love the interaction with the patients and doctors. The things I enjoy outside from work are the outdoors, hiking, camp fires and being with friends and family.

Adam Champagne joined our team in the fall of 2018 as an Ambulatory Services Representative. With a background in retail management, Adam has a keen sense of organization and loves to work with patients of all ages and backgrounds. He says that his favorite thing about Ophthalmology is helping patients improve their vision, however that looks for them. “Vision is so integral in most peoples’ lives- when someone has an eye problem, it impacts everything that they do. I love working in ophthalmology because I get to witness the joy in patients when they leave our facility with improved sight. It’s very gratifying to get to be a part of that experience and patient care.” Outside of work Adam enjoys writing and composing music, indulging in his favorite hobby of board games and RPGS, and spending time with his wife and sons.

I have been working at UMass Memorial, Medical Center since 2009 and have been working as a technician for over 25 years. On the weekends I enjoy attending youth sporting events, painting and running with my dog.

“Once I started working in the clinic, I was interested to further pursue a career in ophthalmology." David Rivera has been working as a Technician for more than eleven years. At present David works for the UMass Memorial, Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. He enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and watching sports in his free time.

“I have always been fascinated with vision.” Jason Mctigue decided to pursue his career in the field of Ophthalmology after completing his degree (Bachelor in Psychology).  Jason currently works as a Technician for the UMass Memorial, Medical Center, and Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. Some of his interests include spending time outdoors and riding motorcycles.

Sarah has been working in Ophthalmology since 2010. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Medical Sciences from Salter College in 2009 and has since gotten her Certification in Ophthalmic Assisting. She presently works as a technician for the UMass Memorial, Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. When not at work she enjoys playing and collecting video games, reading, going on walks, and spending time with friends, family and her cat, Izzy.
