Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Spring Retreat

The Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences hosted a Spring Retreat at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, MA. During the retreat, Dr. Schaal, department chair, summarized several key milestones that were successfully achieved by the Eye Team, including doubling patient volumes at the Eye Center, decreasing patient wait times, adding state of the art imaging technology, adding new eye exam lanes, and opening 2 new eye clinic locations in the community.

Research and academic achievements of our faculty members were highlighted, including the development of ophthalmology medical student interest group, and the award of several NIH funded projects, as well as research projects supported by private foundations.

The guest of honor and the main speaker was the UMass Chan Medical School Dean, Dr. Terry Flotte, who shared with the Eye Team some updates and facts about the growth and dominance of UMass Chan Medical School in the New England research and teaching arenas. Dr. Luna showcased the progress in increasing efficiency in the eye operating rooms,

Dr. Faustina presented the new residency application progress, and Dr. Ding talked about the new diabetic eye disease screening service at the ACC. Dr. Lin won the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Excellence Award for being a role model clinician and scientist.
