Something Special: Connecting at First-Ever Convention

Date Posted: Friday, November 15, 2019

On Monday, November 4, 2019, UMass Memorial Health Care held its first health care convention that brought together referring physicians and advanced practice providers from the community representing more than a dozen clinics and services. The event showcased the latest in clinical care and capabilities from numerous teams, each facilitating a booth with videos, informational materials and demonstrations.

“The eye team members enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and showcase our services and cutting-edge imaging capabilities,” said Shlomit Schaal, MD, PhD, chair, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, whose team brought in a Zeiss Wide Angle Camera (pictured below). The camera demonstrates how, without dilation of the pupil, it can provide a clear view of the central retina as well as the peripheral retina – something most retinal cameras are unable to do without the aid of dilating drops.

Perhaps even more beneficial opportunities for physicians to meet each other, as many primary care physicians met their referring colleagues for the first time at the event. “Despite collaborating to deliver exceptional patient care for many years, some of our private physicians were able to meet specialists face-to-face for the very first time,” said Stephen Tosi, MD, president of the Medical Group. Special thanks to the many teams that helped make this successful convention possible.
