Dr. Lin gives a Special Vision Seminar

Date Posted: Monday, March 05, 2018

Haijiang Lin M.D., Ph.D, a clinician-scientist concentrating on the field of retinal diseases is the Director of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Translational Research Center. He gave a special Vision Seminar talk discussing the role of cytosolic accumulation of nuclear DNA (nDNA) in Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) pathogenesis. AMD remains the leading cause of blindness in developed countries, and affects more than 150 million people worldwide.

Dr. Lin shared his novel research efforts, which are focused on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and the progression of AMD. Dr. Lin and his research team found that cytosolic accumulation of DNA fragments might play a role in multiple pathological processes involved in AMD development and progression. He demonstrated his findings using AMD patient samples, cell models and animal models. Dr. Lin treats AMD patients at the UMass Memorial Eye Center.
