IndEx Information for Companies

The IndEx program has been created by students and postdocs at University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) at Worcester and is aimed to create awareness among students and postdoctoral researchers about Biotech and Pharmaceutical companies in the greater Boston area. The program involves a short visit by a small group of students and post docs to local Biotech companies in order to gain a better understanding of the structure and functioning of industries in general and explore potential career opportunities beyond academia.

About UMMS

UMMS is a world-class research institution, consistently producing noteworthy advances in clinical and basic research. UMMS has been consistently ranked in the top 50 research institutions in the country. UMMS is home to the graduate school of biomedical sciences (GSBS), the school of medicine (SOM) and the school of nursing (SON). The UMMS Advanced Therapeutics Cluster includes the RNAi Institute, Center for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and the Gene Therapy Center. Potential activities during the site visit

  • An introductory session describing the company’s structure, function and goals.
  • A tour of the relevant facilities within the company.
  • A panel discussion with scientists in the company describing their career paths, experience in industry, transition to industry etc.
  • One-on-one or small group meetings with scientists to engage students/postdocs in professional and scientific discussion.
  • A session with Human Resources to explain the hiring process of the company.
