"Our department is a dynamic and service-oriented community.  We are committed to training practitioners and researchers dedicated to caring for the underserved.

This is a terrific place to be!"

- Daniel Lasser, MD, MPH
         Chairman

The UMass Chan Medical School was established in 1962 and dedicated to the training of primary care physicians.  It is home to the state's first family medicine department and residency program.  Over 500 graduates continue to practice family medicine in Massachusetts and in the greater Worcester community.

The expansion and diversity of the department is ongoing with academic programs in family medicine, sports medicine, preventive medicine, hospital medicine, public health, general dentistry, integrated primary care, and correctional health.  Mindful of our mission to provide leadership in academic family medicine, we emphasize the relationship between clinical practice and community health with a particular focus on serving vulnerable populations.

Our medical school is consistently ranked in the top tier of America's foremost medical schools for primary care physician education.  We seek the best and the brightest to join our academic and clinical teams as we move forward to confront the healthcare challenges of today and tomorrow.
