Dr. Fitzgerald graduated from University College Cork (Cork, Ireland) in 1995 with a BSc in Biochemistry, and from Trinity College Dublin (Dublin, Ireland) in 1999 with a PhD in Biochemistry. After completing her post-doctoral studies at Trinity College Dublin, she joined the faculty at the UMass Chan Medical School in 2001, where she is currently the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research Chair III, professor of medicine, associate vice provost for basic science research, executive vice chair for the Department of Medicine, chief of the Division of Innate Immunity and director of the Program in Innate Immunity. Dr. Fitzgerald is an elected member the American Academic of Arts & Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, the National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Irish Academy, the American Academy of Microbiology, and Past-President of the International Cytokine and Interferon Society.
