Dr. Fitzgerald graduated from University College Cork (Cork, Ireland) in 1995 with a BSc in Biochemistry, and from Trinity College Dublin (Dublin, Ireland) in 1999 with a PhD in Biochemistry. After completing her post-doctoral studies at Trinity College Dublin, she joined the faculty at the UMass Chan Medical School in 2004, where she is currently Professor of Medicine, the Worcester Foundation Chair in Biomedical Sciences, Vice Chair for Research and Chief for the Division of Innate Immunity in the Department of Medicine, and Director of the Program in Innate Immunity. Dr. Fitzgerald is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Irish Academy, the American Academy of Microbiology, and Past-President of the International Cytokine and Interferon Society.
