Eligibility/Requirements

The program is open to:

• Massachusetts residents who attend a Massachusetts high school.
• Massachusetts students who are a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status.
• Current Massachusetts high school sophomores/juniors.
• Disadvantaged individuals include those from economically disadvantaged (i.e. meets Federal guidelines for low income, poverty and/or free and reduced lunches)
• Educationally disadvantaged backgrounds (i.e. first generation college graduates).
• Applicants must meet the first three criteria and at least one item in the last two bullet points.

Students are not allowed to participate in any other academic or social program; take classes at another institution; or work for an employer, family member or friend while they are participating in this program. The program requires 110% of your participation, attention and commitment.

Stipends:

Stipends will only be paid to participants who successfully complete the program by attending all classes; submitted in all class and homework assignments to the instructors on time.

HSHCP Recruitment Visits

The Dean of Outreach Programs, Mr. Robert Layne, visits local high schools and programs throughout central Massachusetts during the months of October through February. He informs students and teachers about the program and distributes brochures to familiarize attendees with the program opportunities. 

UMass Chan Medical School Tours

The Office of Outreach Programs, at the UMass Chan Medical School (UMCMS) in Worcester, sponsors tours to familiarize high school students, teachers, principals, guidance counselors, and parents with the career opportunities in BBHP. Each visit includes a tour of certain departments of the UMCMS Campus and a presentation in the amphitheater. Please be advised that tours are scheduled on a first come first serve basis.

To attend a High School Health Careers Program tour the request must be made by a high school teacher, principal or guidance counselor. To schedule a reservation please contact Outreach Programs at 508-856-2707
