Membership
Eligibility for membership at the UMass Cancer Center requires a current faculty appointment at either UMass Chan Medical School, UMass Amherst, or Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Categories of Membership
Research Members
Research members have a cancer-related research program as evidenced by grant funding, publications and/or clinical trials activity. This category also includes researchers who have expertise in enabling technologies that are applicable to cancer research. Research members are assigned to one of the Center's four Research Programs.
Eligibility for Research Membership requires a faculty appointment and at least one of the following:
- Contribution to peer-reviewed cancer literature within the past 3 years.
- Extramural cancer-relevant peer-reviewed grant support as a PI or Co-PI within the past 3 years.
- Service as a PI or site PI on one or more cancer clinical trials within the past 3 years.
- Contribution of specialized medical, scientific or administrative expertise to the overall research mission of the Cancer Center.
Research Members are expected to:
- Actively participate in Cancer Center events (e.g., seminar series, retreats) and other activities of your designated Research Program.
- Notify the Cancer Center of your organization of and/or participation in programmatic activities (e.g., cancer-related meetings, seminars, working groups, research committees, retreats, education or training initiatives, and other significant collaborations).
- Provide an up-to-date NIH biosketch upon request.
- Notify the Cancer Center of updates or changes to your academic or research information.
Clinical Members
Clinical members are clinicians who diagnose or treat patients but do not have a cancer research program.
Benefits of Membership
- Opportunities for interactions and collaborations with faculty involved in basic, clinical/translational or population science research.
- Opportunities to participate and present research at Cancer Center-organized activities (e.g., cancer seminar series, retreats).
- Inclusion in Cancer Center communications (e.g., research and clinical funding opportunities, events, news).
- Eligibility to apply for intramural award funding through the Cancer Center's Pilot Project Program.
- Promotion of publications through the Cancer Center's website and social media channels.
- Access to a professional science writer to help convey your research findings to the broader scientific community and general public.
