Rotate with us

UMASS CHAN EMERGENCY ULTRASOUND ROTATION

The Division of Emergency Ultrasound offers an amazing opportunity for medical students, residents, and fellows to rotate with us in our emergency department at the UMass Memorial Medical Center. We offer a 4-week rotation that lets you be a part of our busy emergency medicine ultrasound team! We welcome trainees from UMass Chan and other institutions. We have an amazing division that is at the forefront of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) education and research and well-known regionally and nationally.

What you will do:

The 4-week rotation gives you a chance to rotate in our busy Emergency Department and get hands-on experience with POCUS. You will rotate alongside emergency medicine residents, ultrasound fellows and the Division faculty.

Along with hands on-scanning, you will participate in twice-weekly didactics led by Emergency Ultrasound fellows and Division faculty. You will also have small-group hands-on instruction from the Ultrasound fellows. You will participate in image review with Division faculty several times weekly. This rotation is an excellent way to learn core POCUS applications, enhance your hands-on ultrasound skills and begin to integrate the use of ultrasound into your clinical practice.

On the calendar:

Monday:  Image review, small-group teaching with Division faculty, hands-on scanning, Journal Club (once during 4-week rotation)
Tuesday: Afternoon ultrasound lecture (eFAST, Echo, Soft Tissue, Vascular) with US fellow or faculty, hands-on scanning in the Emergency Department with Division faculty, fellows and residents, and image review
Wednesday: Morning EM resident conference, afternoon ultrasound lecture (Advanced Echo, Pelvic, RUQ, Renal) with Division faculty, hands-on scanning in the Emergency Department with faculty, fellows and residents, and image review
Thursday: Image review and hands-on scanning
