Undergraduate Medical Education
The Department of Dermatology and its faculty are deeply involved in Undergraduate Medical Education via leadership roles as course directors, teachers, collaborators with faculty in other departments, committee members, program developers, and student mentors/advisors.
The department under the direction of Dr. Leah Belazarian manages the pathophysiology component of OSD (Organ System Diseases), a significant course in the 2nd year which includes an 2 week Dermatology block. We host third year medical students in 1 week Flexible Clinical Experiences (FCE) rotations. Faculty members and senior residents lead multiple conferences throughout the year for internal medicine, pediatric, family medicine, and emergency medicine residents at UMass.
The Dermatology rotation typically welcomes fourth year UMass Chan Medical School students, visiting medical students interested in dermatology, and UMass Chan residents from other specialties. During this rotation, visitors are able to attend a variety of general and subspecialty clinics at our Hahnemann and Ambulatory Care Clinic sites, including adult medical dermatology, pediatric dermatology, surgical/Mohs, laser, vitiligo, transplant, genodermatoses, cosmetic and epidermolysis bullosa clinic. There is also a pediatric dermatology rotation available on a case by case basis. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, we are not able to accpet students outside of UMass Chan for an in-person rotation. We are considering a virtual rotation for the fall of 2020.
If you are interested in rotating with us, please visit the Office of Student Affairs website for more information and an application. UMass utilizes the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS).
